Safe Harbor loading racks for truck and railcar loading are designed for single spot or multi-spot loading areas. Their loading racks represent complete loading and unloading system designs, available in a variety of heights to suit specific applications.

Multiple Railcar Loading Racks

Safe Harbor Loading Racks can be designed using either a single pedestal configuration or tower supports.

Single Pedestal Design

Safe Harbor single pedestal design requires a smaller footprint for situations where space is a concern. Another advantage of using a single pedestal design is the reduction in concrete footings that are required. By having less concrete footings you will save time and money during installation.

Tower Support Design

Safe Harbor tower support design is primarily used when you need to have piping supported under the platform. It is also used if there are existing obstructions running down the center of the platform. Tower supports work best when a canopy is required or when there are loading arms involved. Multiple Rail Car Systems can be engineered to provide safe access for your operators regardless of whether the railcars are coupled or uncoupled.

OPTIONS

Safe Harbor's tracking gangways eliminate railcar mis-spotting issues that are common with coupled railcars. Franklen Equipment and Safe Harbor will help to determine the best option for your application whether it's the self- closing swing gates, snap chain openings, or tracking handrails.

Safe Harbor's tracking gangways allow your operator to simply grab the top rail of the gangway and track the gangway to the railcar crash box opening. Once the gangway is spotted with the opening the operator will deploy the 100% self-supported gangway on top of the railcar and he or she will be protected with our OSHA compliant fall prevention safety cage.

Self-Closing Swing Gate

  • Available in lengths of 6'-0", 9'-0", 12'-0", 15'-0" & 18'-0" sections.
  • 3'-0" wide opposed to the industry standard 2'-0" wide to reduce the number of swing gate post obstructions. A 3'-0" wide swing gate also allows for minor mis- spotting that occurs when positioning the railcars.
  • Self-closing so your operator can concentrate on loading or unloading the product and have once less safety item to worry about.
  • 42" top rail, midrail and a 4" toe board that meets OSHA Handrail requirements found in section 1910.23.

Snap Chain Openings

  • This design is used primarily for retrofitting to older loading racks, existing piping obstructions, or for narrow platforms where our self-closing swing gate will not work.

Tracking Handrail

  • Safe Harbor's innovative tracking handrail design eliminates the possibility of a swing gate post obstructing the opening of the gangway walk surface.
  • Available in 6'-0" and 12'-0" lengths.
  • 42" top rail, midrail and a 4" toe board that meets OSHA Handrail requirements found in section 1910.23.

Safety Access System Canopy

Safe Harbor canopies will help to reduce product contamination and increase operator safety during railcar and truck loading and unloading. In addition, Safe Harbor can design and build a canopy for your loading and unloading spots that will allow you to move your product regardless of what the weather conditions are.

Safe Harbor offers canopies that will keep the rain, snow, sleet, hail, or wind off of your operators and out of your product. Their canopies can be engineered as a new system or customized to retrofit to your existing loading areas.

Custom Access Stairs

Safe Harbor can custom engineer and fabricate stairs that meet your specific requirements. They can build custom access stairs such as crossovers, spiral stairs, stair towers, and floating tank roof stairs.


Safety Cage Ladders

Safe Harbor's cage ladders will help keep your employees safe and your company up with OSHA regulations. If your custom cage ladder exceeds 20 ft., it is required to have a safety cage. If it exceeds 30 ft. of straight vertical ascent, it is required to have a rest platform. (OSHA 1910.27)

Safety Cage Ladder Requirements

Load

Safe Harbor fabricates safety ladders with cages that will support a minimum of 200 pounds of a concentrated load. From a free on-site evaluation, we can determine load requirements for your fixed ladder.

Rungs

All safety cage ladders need to have properly installed rungs because a rung minimizes slipping. Safe Harbor uses various patterns, like corrugated, knurled, or dimpled, for fixed ladders, and complies with OSHA standards for rung diameters and distances.

Extensions

Based on your on-site evaluation, we will be able to determine extensions for your cage ladder since standards change depending on the type of ladder. OSHA regulations state that an extension must extend 3.5 feet above landings without rungs.
